Recently, the Journal of Social History published my article, “Love and Justice: African American Women, Education, and Protest in Antebellum New England." This article argues that young African American women at the Canterbury Female Seminary Connecticut actually deployed an ethic of Christian love as a form of social protest and to counter white hostility.
