Women's Education circa the 1830s
The Journal of Social History published my article, “Love and Justice: African American Women, Education, and Protest in Antebellum New England." This article argues that young African American women at the Canterbury Female Seminary in Connecticut actually deployed an ethic of Christian love as a form of social protest to pursue their education while countering white hostility.
